Concussions cause trauma to the brain and skull and also affect the upper spine. A chiropractor can evaluate concussion patients and provide necessary adjustments to align the upper cervical spine and minimize potential damage and side effects caused by concussions.
Concussion patients should see a chiropractor because there is always an upper cervical, and possibly a lower cervical, component to the concussion. The upper cervical spine is directly related, so any impact that is occurring to the skull, to the cranial vault, causing a concussion, the upper cervical spine will also be affected.
Much of the time, this is not an area that is being evaluated and it is being overlooked by much of the medical profession, so somebody that suffers a concussion should definitely see a chiropractor. We definitely do have concussion protocols that we go through. We provide both testing and treatment in our office.
